BIOGRAPHIES
Robert Bertrand was born in
1948 and has been playing guitar since 22 years of age
after previously being a lead singer, harmonica player and
trumpeter in a series of Cape Breton bands during the
1970’s. And being from eastern Canada, it was only natural
that he would be influenced by the songwriting and guitar
playing of Canada’s own Gordon Lightfoot. The time he spent
playing in bands led him to focus more on learning and
developing guitar skills, as he was becoming interested in
playing blues. He was blazing new trails because at the
time nobody in Cape Breton played blues. Robert’s early
sources of blues influence included the country blues style
of the great Mississippi John Hurt and the electric and
slide blues style of the legendary Muddy Waters. And of
course, meeting the gracious Muddy Waters backstage at a
concert left a lasting impression on him.
After only a year of focusing on guitar all those years
ago, guitar became his main performing instrument
accompanied by his brilliant backup blues harmonica mounted
around his neck. With his years of vocal experience it was
only natural for him to become a solo blues performer, as
well as a welcome experienced addition to any band lineup.
Upon hearing and meeting blues artist John Hammond it was
only natural that he would be inspired to practice and
further develop finger-style and slide guitar techniques.
By that time Robert had been developing his writing skills,
prior to relocating to Toronto and becoming a full-time
musician. Relocating to Canada’s west coast, he continued
his music career experiencing music life on and off the
road.
Robert continues to reside in British Columbia, writing,
performing and recording.
Jeff Wyatt, born in 1955 on the
Saskatchewan prairies, has been involved with the Canadian
west coast music scene (writing, recording and performing
live) since 1991, prior to his 24 year involvement with the
Canadian prairie music scene. As well as being a musician,
he graduated from the 'Digital/Analog Automated Recording
Arts' program at Columbia Academy in Vancouver, Canada in
1992.
Being a guitarist and songwriter since 1967, Jeff has been
affected by many musical influences that inevitably rear
their heads in his music. But when it comes to overall
musical styles, he often falls back onto blues or
blues/rock and country influence. Even though he tinkers
with various playing styles, he performs on electric and
acoustic, using flat pick and finger-style in standard and
open tunings along with slide.
More detailed bio information on Jeff can be found on other
pages of this website.
